Call & Gifted… a journey to discovering your spiritual gifts
Commencing Saturday 13th September 2025 at Corpus Christi parish, Headington
What is Called and Gifted (C&G)? It’s a process which helps you discern more clearly the particular spiritual gifts (known as charisms) the Holy Spirit has given you. The C&G journey is a bit like unearthing buried treasure. It will help you to grow spiritually, to appreciate your God given gifts, to become more the person God wants you to be and to apply your charisms more intentionally for the benefit of the parish community and yourself, enabling you to become a fuller channel of God’s grace. Called & Gifted is very well established and was developed by the Catherine of Siena Institute (CSI) back in 1993. Quick video overview from CSI (1m 30s): https://vimeo.com/322254299
What’s the benefit of Called & Gifted?
Those who have been though Called & Gifted typically describe it as a very positive process, giving them clearer insights into their unique personal charisms (which goes beyond merely identifying skills or talents). Some people have “Aha” moments – where things just seem to click into place and they see how their charisms and pattern of life fit together. Others get a quiet sense of affirmation around what they are already doing in the parish, or they may feel drawn towards some sort of further service or action in the Church. What does it involve? The C&G discernment journey has three stages:
· Stage One – involves an engaging teaching day, on 13th September. This introduces discernment, giving examples and insights into the various charisms. Nearer the time you will also be given 6 months access to the CSI’s on-line learning and resource platform and you’ll complete the Catholic Spiritual Gifts questionnaire. This gives an initial indication of the charisms that you may have, laying a foundation for further exploration and discernment.
· Stage Two – is a one hour 1:1 personal gifts conversation, with a trained team facilitator, following the workshop. This informal and supportive discussion draws very much on your own personal faith journey, experience in life and the Church. It helps to deepen the discernment of your possible charisms and is usually held via Zoom for convenience.
· Stage Three – helps you develop practical discernment in the real world. This involves you experimenting with a potential charism, with the opportunity to meet as part of a small, supportive, group over perhaps 6-8 weeks to share insights. There are four meetings, again usually via Zoom.

The Catherine of Siena Institute (CSI) in the U.S.A. initially developed Called & Gifted in 1993. It has since been used by over 200,000 lay and ordained Catholics and other Christians around the world. In the UK, the Diocese of Portsmouth has been something of a standard bearer for Called and Gifted since 2014. Some 2,000 parishioners there have now participated in C&G, with positive results. Portsmouth Diocese now has its own team of trained diocesan Called and Gifted facilitators (licensed by the CSI) who now offer Called & Gifted to other Dioceses and communities. They will be leading the process at Corpus Christi.
